Installation Overview
  1. Download the latest build from the download page
  2. Double-click on the downloaded file (Microsoft Windows Installer file) in Windows explorer to install the application on your local machine
  3. Part of the installation process is the option for installing Firebird ODBC driver. This option will be presented if you do not have the driver already installed or if the installed driver version does not meet the application minimum version requirement. The Firebird ODBC driver is required for using the embedded repository. You need to have administrative privileges to install drivers. If you choose not to install the Firebird ODBC driver by unchecking the option in the installer, you can install the driver later from Windows Start | Programs | Zidsoft | CompareData menu, but you may need to use CompareData repository wizard to create the embedded repository if you run the application before you install the driver.
  4. Use ODBC Administrator (from Windows Control Panel or by running CompareData and using Tools | ODBC Data Source Administrator menu) to add an ODBC data source for each database you want to use in CompareData.
  5. Start the application and use Tools | Data Sources dialog to add an application data source for each database you want to use in CompareData. An application data source is similar to an ODBC data source but allows you to set additional information for the ODBC data source such as login id and password.
  6. You should be connected to the Firebird embedded repository at this point. If not, or if you wish to use a different DBMS for the repository, then use Tools | Data Sources dialog to set/create the application repository.
  7. Use File | Add New DBMS Comparison menu option to add a DBMS comparison for the two data sources you want to compare their data.
  8. By default Tables, Views (if applicable) and My Comparisons items are automatically added for a new DBMS comparison. Additional comparisons may be available/added by right-clicking on the DBMS comparison root in the workspace tree.
